THANKS TO ALL FOR MAKING THIS MARCH SUCH A SUCCESS!

Saturday March 20, 2004:
Maine Still Says No To War!

The Global Day Action that took place on March 20, 2004, the one-year anniversary of the U.S. bombing and invasion of Iraq, was yet another historic day when people on every continent took to the streets and said YES to peace and NO to preemptive war and occupation.

Leading the continued call for peace are the growing numbers of military families and soldiers. We join with them calling for an end to the occupation of Iraq and Bush’s militaristic foreign policies and the linkages between the occupations of Iraq and Palestine.

March 20 was the first time the world's "other superpower," as The New York Times described us, took center stage since February 15, 2003 when more than 15 million people across the globe expressed their opposition to Bush's then looming war on Iraq.

In a showing of solidarity with the world, the march and rally here in Maine on Saturday March 20, 2004 began at noon at the Statehouse in Augusta.

Approximately 1,200 peace-loving people of Maine joined with the world in saying NO TO WAR and to demand of the U.S. administration that the United Nations be called upon at once to enter and oversee the healing and reconstruction of Iraq, to demand the swift return of our troops and to provide for their long-term care.

Thanks to all who helped make this historic event possible with particular thanks going to Tim Sullivan and Tony Aman for their dedicated efforts.

Thanks to all who endorsed the event and thanks to all who have made contributions. Through the generous financial support of countless individuals we were able to pay for the permitting fee ($2000) and advertising costs.
